Hei Matau with Paua Shell Inlay – Women’s Bone Carving
A delicate piece of cultural jewellery to call your own.
Hei Matau are stylized fish hook pendants. According to Maori they represent the fish hook that was used by the Polynesian hero Maui to fish up the North Island of New Zealand. The Hei Matau also symbolizes strength, prosperity, abundance and fertility. It is a good luck charm especially for people travelling over water.
This Hei Matau pendant has been made in the typical fish hook fashion. It is carved out of cow bone. There is a triangular paua shell inlay on the hook which adds an extra sparkle to necklace.
Pendant measurements (LxW): 5.3cm x 3cm
